IEEE Region 8 Virtual Student & Young Professionals Congress 2020

IEEE R8 Virtual Student & Young Professionals Congress will be held from 14th to 26th of September 2020 in a hybrid format with 3 hours of daily content. The IEEE Region 8 SYP Congress is an event of great tradition and perhaps the most expected in Region 8. Throughout the technical and social activities, students and young professionals have an opportunity to improve their engineering knowledge, their soft skills, and to get to know other cultures from our diverse Region. In close collaboration with companies, attendees get closer to the industry. They all network, exchange ideas and thoughts about the technological trends. This year, all events have been either postponed or canceled for the safety of all IEEE members. Since the beginning of the year, we have been looking forward to the IEEE R8 SYP 2020 in Gothenburg, and while the final decision when it will happen is eagerly awaited, the first ever IEEE R8 Virtual SYP is now in the public spotlight! IEEE R8 Virtual SYP will be held from 14th to 26th of September 2020 in a hybrid format with 3 hours of daily content. If you are interested in participating, register at the official website (https://www.r8syp.com/virtual-syp), where you can also learn more about the program.

Smart Living

IEEE Iran Section continues its webinar series, examining the smart city building blocks and their synergy with smart villages. The webinar series is free, co-organized with the IEEE Sections of UAE and Oman,  and is open to anyone to register. Additionally, the option of a certificate is available during the registration, for those willing or interested to have one.   A few details about the topic A smart city relies on widely distributed smart devices to monitor the urban environment in real-time, collects information for intelligent decision making, and facilitates various services to improve the quality of urban living. The distributed network of intelligent sensor nodes, as well as data centers/clouds where sensor data are stored and shared, constitutes a smart city infrastructure. Participatory sensing plays an indispensable role in emerging initiatives of a smart city, which retrieves sensor data from groups of people or communities. The proliferation of personal mobile devices and development of online social networks make participatory sensing viable at a large scale but introduce many open problems at the same time.
